What is Counselling like with Me?

If you’ve never had counselling before — or if you’ve had a bad experience in the past — you might be wondering what to expect. Maybe you’re nervous about opening up, worried about being judged, or unsure if your problems are “serious enough” for therapy. I get it. Reaching out takes courage, and you deserve to know what kind of support you’re stepping into.

Counselling with me isn’t clinical or cold. It’s not about diagnoses, fix-it plans, or making you fit into some mold. It’s about showing up exactly as you are — messy thoughts, complicated feelings, half-formed sentences and all — and being met with genuine understanding.

A Down-to-Earth Space for Real People

My approach is grounded, conversational, and compassionate. I’m not here to psychoanalyse you from a distance or make you explain your trauma in perfect detail. I’m here to meet you where you are, walk alongside you, and help you make sense of what’s going on — at your pace.

What Sessions might look like:

·       Talking through something that’s been weighing on you

·       Gently untangling patterns that keep showing up

·       Sitting with hard emotions that feel too big to carry alone

·       Learning how to listen to your own needs (maybe for the first time ever)

There’s no pressure to be “good at therapy.” There’s no script. You don’t have to perform. Just bring yourself.

You Set the Pace, I Hold the Space

Some people want practical tools. Others just need a space to breathe and be heard. Most want a bit of both. We’ll work together to figure out what’s most helpful for you. And if you’re not sure yet, that’s okay too. I’ll help you gently figure that out along the way.

Everything we talk about is confidential (with a couple of legal exceptions, which I’ll go over in your first session). You’re in control the whole time — you can pause, change direction, or just say, “I don’t know where to start,” and that’s enough.

Therapy isn’t about needing to have it all together — it’s about having a safe place to fall apart when you need to. If you're looking for counselling that’s honest, human, and tailored to your actual life (not just textbook theory), you’re in the right place. You bring your lived experience. I bring mine. And together, we figure things out.
